Dimensions
Casco dealers can receive window dimensions in two ways: either by providing the opening size or by specifying the exact tip-to-tip measurements of the window required. The "window opening" refers to the space either within which the window needs to fit (typical for blind stop mount style frames) or the area it needs to cover up (typical for overlap frame style). To determine the type of frame needed, please refer to the drawings below, which illustrate the two types of frames for clarification.
Blind Stop Mount Frame
- Opening Size (Width) - 1/8" = Tip to Tip Width of the Window
- Opening Size (Height) -1/8" = Tip to Tip Height of the Window, Including the Sill Expander at Its Most Compressed Position
Overlap Mount Frame
- Opening Size (Width) + 1" = Tip to Tip Width of the Window
- Opening Size (Height) + 1/2" = Tip to Tip Height of the Window, Including the Sill Expander at Its Most Compressed Position
Note: If your window includes an expander, Casco will make the necessary adjustments to incorporate the expander into your overall provided dimensions. Customers should refrain from compensating for the expander themselves, unless unusual circumstances are involved.
How to Measure
Opening Width Measurement:
- Measure the width of the window frame at three points: top, middle, and bottom.
- Use the smallest measurement to avoid gaps.
Opening Height Measurement:
- Measure the height of the window frame at three points: left, center, and right.
- Ensure accuracy and use the smallest measurement.
Tip-to-Tip Frame Dimension (Optional):
- Alternatively, customers can provide the tip-to-tip frame dimension.
- Measure (or provide) the outermost tip of the flange for the width and the outermost dimension for the height.
- Include from the top of the flange to the bottom of the sill expander.
Sill Expander Options:
- Note that there are two different sill expander options available: 7/8" and 1-1/2".
- Choose the appropriate sill expander based on your window sill condition.
Notes:
- Ensure that all measurements are double-checked for accuracy before ordering or purchasing the storm window.
- Adjust measurements accordingly if any irregularities in the frame are noted.
- Providing either set of dimensions (opening or tip to tip) ensures a snug fit, offering both protection and aesthetic appeal.
- Consider the height of the window sill to ensure compatibility with the chosen sill expander option.
